This does not need to be in extraordinary ways. Rather, this mission is more properly concerned with an authentic life lived in accord with the Gospel, striving for holiness and spiritual growth in prayer.
This focus allows us to carry the Gospel message to our families, neighbors and world so that we, too, have an important role in the task of evangelization by the faithful witness of our lives. Will we deny his call? Some people stay after Mass to pray. Why, if they just prayed at Mass for an hour?
After the Mass has ended, many people enjoy an age-old practice of praying in church after Mass. These are traditionally known as prayers of thanksgiving and focus on thanking God for the great gift that we have received in the Eucharist and in the mystery of our redemption.
While these prayers are not obligatory, they are perfectly acceptable and encouraging ways for us to keep in our mind the importance of the Blessed Sacrament and the Mass itself. As such, this spirit of prayer should be fostered and respected in the church even after Mass. The sacred space of the church should remain a place of quiet prayer at all times, even after Mass when we might be inclined to greet our neighbors.
Certainly, after Mass is a great time to catch up with friends and build up our parish community, but we should also respect an atmosphere of prayer for those who wish to pray after Mass. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their Helper and Guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence.
Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. All: Amen. The deacon brings the Chrism to the bishop. Each candidate goes to the bishop, or the bishop may go to the individual candidates. Bishop: Peace be with you. Newly confirmed: And with your spirit.
Universal Prayer The universal prayer, or prayer of the faithful, follows. Concluding Rites Instead of the usual blessing at the end of Mass, the following blessing or prayer over the people is used. Bishop: God our Father made you his children by water and the Holy Spirit: may he bless you and watch over you with his fatherly love.
Bishop: Jesus Christ the Son of God promised that the Spirit of truth would be with his Church for ever: may he bless you and give you courage in professing the true faith. Prayer Over the People Instead of the preceding blessing, the prayer over the people may be used. Bishop: Extends his hands over the people and sings or says: God our Father, complete the work you have begun and keep the gifts of your Holy Spirit active in the hearts of your people.
In this situation the bishop will be seated at the cathedra CB, The second situation, in which the bishop is present but does not preside, is described in CB No. On these occasions the bishop wears what is known as choir dress. This consists of the fuschia- or purple-colored cassock along with mozzetta and zucchetto or skullcap of the same color. The mozzetta is a small, hooded cape extending to the elbows and buttoned in front.
The biretta, a square, stiff brimless cap with three or four ridges on the top surface and worn over the skullcap, is no longer obligatory and is now rarely used. The rochet is worn under the mozzetta and over the cassock.
It is a white linen vestment resembling a surplice except that it has close fitting sleeves rather than the wide ones of the surplice. Over the mozzetta he wears a pectoral cross which is usually hung on a gold and green cord, although some bishops use a silver- or gold-colored chain for all occasions. In this case the bishop is not seated at the cathedra but at some other suitable place within the presbytery.
On some occasions there may be a combination of both modes of vesture, for example, if the bishop is in choir dress but is to make the final commendation at a funeral. In this case, after communion he removes the mozzetta and replaces it with the cope, stole and miter in order to direct the prayers. Religious Catalogue. See of Peter.
