The foundation of St. John Mercer and Isaac Mercer, master-builders from Bay Roberts, constructed the church with the assistance of free labour from the community. The wooden structure is built of Newfoundland spruce, fir and pine, which parishioners cut and brought out by dog sled. All the timber in the church was hand made by local carpenters.
